History
MLD is an advanced massage technique which was developed in Europe in the 1930's by Dr Emil Vodder and adapted by various medical professionals such as Dr Foeldi in Germany and Professor Leduc in Belgium.
The Lymphatic System acts as a detoxifying mechanism for the whole body. If the lymphatic flow is impaired through injury, infection or poor lifestyle the waste products cannot be filtered out quickly enough. A build up of toxins causes swelling at the site of injury or around the lymph nodes.
Treatment
Treatment consists of a very gentle pumping pressure which stimulates the lymphatic system. All the movements start centrally in the body and move out to the extremeties. The pressure is light as the lymph vessels are just beneath the skin surface. The massage is deeply relaxing.
